I have owned dogs all of my life, goldens, German Shepherds, and Labs. Many of them have been from working lines, I’ve put several titles and professional certifications on them over the years, so my expectations are high when it comes time to find a pup. Anyone that’s a dog person can attest that finding a reputable, ethical, and thoughtful breeder can be a challenge. When I found Steve and Julie at Revolutionary Performance Retrievers it did not take long to know they had something special going on with their breeding program. They treated their pups with the care and dedication you only see from the pros who just love the process of building a good dog. They do all the things, big and little, a gun dog puppy needs for exposure and care. I told Steve “I’m looking for a hunt test/duck dog that has a BIG motor, wicked smart, but she needs to be small – a pocket rocket.” Well, he was gracious and let me get Ms. Pepper even though he had his eye on her for himself. She is exactly what I wanted and more, especially for a real working dog. From a young age, her steadiness, ability to watch birds, mark, and focus on me when we run blinds was like no other dog I had ever trained. Simply put, she made me look like a much better trainer/handler than I am. All she has ever wanted was to go work and find some birds.
One of the biggest gambles in the dog world is their health. This little girl is 58 pounds of solid muscle and DRIVE. Her weight is easy to control, her eyes, elbows and hips are solid – I honestly think she could outrun the four-wheeler if she wanted to. My vet sees her regularly and the comment is always the same “she’s so fit!” Although she is arguably the most athletic dog I’ve had the pleasure of owning, it’s her intelligence that is most noticeable. Couple that with an “off switch” when we’re home around family and a loving personality – she’s just “that dog” you get tired of hearing about. But when you see her work you get it. The genetic advantage is real and Pepper has it from nose to tail.
